About me
My name is Andy Hall and I make my home in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. I’ve been a full time photographer for the past 10 years and I feel very fortunate to be able to make a living doing what I love!
Artist Statement
Photography is a language… a way to communicate about a place, time or experience. It is both self-expression, and an attempt to capture the expression of what is. When I am truly present and in the moment, my vision, and consequently my photograph, shows reverence. What I see through my camera is not really there until I allow my mind to see the perfection in the obvious and the stunning beauty of the often overlooked.
Technique and Methods
My photographs are created using film and digital cameras, a variety of lenses, and a tripod. I own camera gear from many different manufacturers. I’m not married to one brand name because the right tool for each shooting situation isn’t always made by just one manufacturer. I was explaining my beliefs about camera gear to a woman at an art fair one time and she said
“So it’s the Indian not the arrow” precisely, I replied.
I have been experimenting more recently with multi-image panoramas and abstracts involving camera movement during exposure. My panorama images are stitched together using photo editing software. Still the vast majority of the images on this website are a single exposure created entirely in camera with a polarizing filter occasionally.
